Digital-Viral Wrap Up Notes (12/7)

Why or why not are digital-viral texts such as memes, hashtags, and other related texts worthy of study as objects of composition, rhetoric, and/or literacy?

—Memes as jokes…Explaining a joke = loses fun-factor or funniness

—Loses something (meaning? joy?) in studying, analyzing these texts

—Talking about memes in class = fun?

—Uncovering / shining a light on things that people actually engage with IRL

—Newer, so nice to learn something about them as opposed to more dated, older, traditional forms of media

—Memes, etc. come up in other aspects of life. Why shouldn’t we talk about them?

—What can digital-viral texts such as these tell us about the relationship between composition and space?

Can people ever “make” something go viral? Why or why not? (And maybe this begs the question of what “viral” even means? How do we know if something goes viral?)

—Intention / purpose plays some sort of role?

—Hard to make viral, but influence it / shape it?

—Strategies you can follow to increase growth, chances of spreading

—Giving things a push at the onset, and this can help things spread to start exponential growth

—e.g.) Overlard with hashtags…

—What suggestions do you have for improving or otherwise revising this unit?
